Unveiled at the 1966 Geneva Salon, Ferrari’s 330 GTC debuted as a svelte and exclusive high-speed coupe for two with luxurious and spacious passenger accommodations in the finest V-12 Ferrari grand-touring tradition. Subtly styled and elegantly appointed bodies for the 330 GTC were designed and built to exceptional standards by Pininfarina at the renowned coachbuilder’s Grugliasco facilities located near Turin, Italy. Major 330 GTC design cues included sleek frontal styling inspired by the 500 Superfast and a neat rear treatment reminiscent of the 275 GTS. The light, airy roof utilized exceptionally thin pillars and offered remarkably good visibility; this feature was unique to the 330 GTC and continued with its larger-displacement 365 GTC successor. Slender chrome quarter-bumpers at all four corners, air extractors at the front fenders and subtle “330” scripts rounded out the exterior details.
Powering the 300 GTC was a Colombo-derived 4.0L V-12 engine with a trio of twin-choke Weber carburetors and a single overhead camshaft per cylinder bank, delivering an impressive SAE-rated 345 HP output. Sharing its basic chassis with Ferrari’s 275 series, the 330 GTC featured 4-wheel independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes. Housed within a rear-mounted transaxle, the 5-speed manual gearbox endowed the 330 GTC with near-perfect weight distribution and excellent handling characteristics.
In a November 1966 road test for the English magazine The Motor, veteran racing driver and automotive journalist Paul Frère characterized the handling of the 330 GTC as being “… as close to neutral as anyone could want.” He continued to detail “… the solidness with which it changes direction, particularly in S-bends, where it tracks with about the same precision as a modern race car.” Capable of accelerating from rest to 60 MPH in fewer than 7 seconds en route to quarter-mile sprints under 15 seconds and a top speed of 150 MPH, the 330 GTC advanced and refined the classic V-12 Ferrari grand-touring concept as never before with heightened levels of style and luxury. Exclusivity was assured with only 600 examples of the 330 GTC produced through 1968, according to production numbers compiled by noted Ferrari marque historians and authors Stanley Nowak and Marcel Massini.
This handsomely presented 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC, Chassis No. 10889, was delivered new to official German Ferrari importer Auto Becker, Auto Supermarket GmbH of Bad Ems, Koblenz, Germany. A thrilling find, Chassis No. 10889 was eventually exported to the United States. Captivating in Rosso Corsa (Racing Red) paint with black leather upholstery and red carpets, Chassis No. 10889 is powered by a 3967cc V-12 engine equipped with triple Weber twin-choke carburetors and paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The incomparable driving experience offered by this 330 GTC includes Ferrari’s signature gated shifter, electric window lifts, Veglia instruments, a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel, power 4-wheel disc brakes and Borrani knock-off wire wheels. Accompanied by a copy of its Marcel Massini report, this rare Ferrari 330 GTC is one of the marque’s finest of all V-12 GT cars and offers many opportunities for its next caretaker to enjoy it.
