THE STORY
With only 200 miles since its completion, this uniquely painted and like-new 1967 GT500E Super Snake represents a unique era in Mustang history. In the early 2000s, its builder, Unique Performance in Farmers Branch, Texas, quickly rose to prominence by entering into a short-lived agreement with Carroll Shelby to build continuation Shelbys, including Cobras and GT500Es. Built on “rescued” vintage 1967-68 Mustang fastback bodies, the GT500Es featured high-performance engines, suspensions and brakes, along with modern technology like 4-wheel disc brakes, Tremec 5-speed transmissions, air conditioning and rack-and-pinion steering. The GT500E Super Snake upgrade included a 427 engine, heavy-duty Tremec TKO 5-speed, trunk-mounted battery and other high-performance upgrades. Only 75 were scheduled to be built.
This Ford GT40-themed, Gulf Blue and orange 1967 GT500E Super Snake, Unique Performance No. TEX1116381, is one of the few that were eventually built. Wrapped in self-healing Xpel Ultimate clear wrap, the Super Snake is powered by a custom 427/635 HP V-8 engine built by Prestige Motors with Borla fuel injection, an upgraded camshaft, a polished front pulley system and orange Ford Racing valve covers. The movie-star looks are accomplished with the custom front end that incorporates fog and driving lights, a raised hood, side exhaust integrated into the lower rockers and American Racing polished aluminum wheels. A custom-fabricated undercarriage supports a performance suspension with 4-wheel TCP coilover shocks and Shelby-partnered rear suspension system.
The Deluxe Mustang interior is all business with custom black leather seats with “Super Snake” embroidered seatbacks, a roll bar painted in matching orange, a tilt steering column, a wood-grain three-spoke steering wheel, Cobra-logo custom instrument gauges and a retro Bluetooth radio. The rare GT500E Super Snake comes with its engine bay VIN plate, Shelby script floor mat, and Carroll Shelby signature adjacent to the “Super Snake 427” emblem on the passenger side dash.
