Built at the Norwood Assembly Plant, this 1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is one of just seven such cars built with the top-level 455 Super Duty V-8, the 4-speed manual transmission and finished in the one-year-only Brewster Green. It’s a barn find car with a known ownership history, and it was treated to a comprehensive restoration by S & L Classics that was completed in 2009.
In addition to its top-level, matching-numbers 455 CI Super Duty V-8 and its 4-speed, the Trans Am also features the optional hood bird, a black bucket seat interior, a Hurst floor shifter and an engine-turned dash panel housing a 160 MPH speedometer, 8,000 RPM tachometer and clock, oil pressure and coolant temperature gauge and a volt meter. It rolls on Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.
The 455 Super Duty differed from the standard 455 4-barrel by way of a reinforced 4-bolt-main block, forged pistons and rods, special round–port cylinder heads and a specific hydraulic camshaft. It was rated at 290 HP at 4,000 RPM with 390 lb-ft of torque at 3,600. It was available with either a 4-speed manual or Turbo 400 automatic.
This particular Wisconsin car includes PHS documentation, extensive restoration documents, vintage “as purchased” photographs and a DVD with detailed restoration images. With just seven such vehicles built in 1973 with the 455 Super Duty V-8 and a 4-speed transmission and painted in the one-year-only Brewster Green, this 1973 Trans Am is a rare opportunity to own a truly spectacular example of Pontiac’s last original-era muscle car.
