2012 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake 50th Anniversary Widebody

Starting in 1965, Shelby American began forging a long and illustrious history out of breathing fire into Ford’s Mustang. In 1967, Shelby went even further when it shoehorned a 427 CI V-8 engine sourced from a GT40 into a Mustang fastback to create the first Shelby Super Snake. After terminating its relationship with Ford in 1969, the Super Snake name would lie dormant until it was revived in 2007. Then, in 2012, Shelby American debuted a new, second-generation GT500 Super Snake at the New York International Auto Show. Like its forebearer, the new Super Snake was all about brute horsepower with a 5.4L V-8 engine equipped with a 3.6L Kenne Bell supercharger capable of producing as much as 800 HP and 714 lb-ft of torque. In order to manage all that extra horsepower, Shelby engineers added 6-piston Baer calipers and cross drilled and vented rotors for improved braking as well as a Ford Racing handling package that included lowered springs, dynamic adjustable dampeners and stabilizer bars.

The example on offer is one of just two 50th Anniversary 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snakes produced with the Widebody package and features the signatures of its production team inside the trunk. It’s finished in black with gold center and rocker stripes, and it’s all-black interior features Carroll Shelby’s signature prominently on the dash, which is documented by a certificate of authenticity. Underneath its raised air scoop hood, this Super Snake features a 5.8L/900 HP V-8 engine outfitted with a 3.6L liquid-cooled Kenne Bell supercharger and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
