When it debuted, it was the most powerful Raptor pickup Ford had ever produced with its supercharged 5.2L V-8 engine spinning out 700 HP and 640 lb-ft of torque, enough grunt to rocket the truck from zero to 60 MPH in about 3.7 seconds and zap through a quarter mile in 12.7 seconds at 111.8 MPH. If the engine size and horsepower rating sound familiar, it’s likely because it initially served in the Mustang Shelby GT500. Modified for off-road use in the Raptor R, the supercharger received a new pulley, the exhaust manifolds were swapped out for cast stainless steel units, a unique oil cooler and filter were installed, and a deeper oil pan was used. A wider intake inlet and a high-flow, high-efficiency conical air filter increased air flow by 66%. Ford claimed the adjustments were not so much for power gains as much as they were for increasing the Raptor R’s durability and abilities off road.
Powered by a supercharged 5.2L V-8 that pushed 700 HP through an automatic transmission and 4.10-ration lock rear axle, this 2023 Raptor R shows just 28 miles, has never been dealer prepped and is still largely wrapped in plastic. Various stickers, including the window sticker and some markings, remain on the glass. Finished in Avalanche Gray with black trim and wheels, it’s a graphics-delete truck and has a spray-in bedliner, Rigid LED fog lamps, skid plates and various unique Raptor and Raptor R elements.
The black leather interior features Recaro seats, a twin–panel moonroof, a wireless charging pad and carbon fiber trim on the doors, upper parts of the instrument panel and media bin. Packed with technology like pre-collision assist, trail control and the terrain management system, the Raptor R was created to not only be an off-road muscle truck but an intelligent vehicle that could be used daily as well.
