For the purist, a Ram Air III GTO Judge probably needs to be kept to exacting specs. For those enthusiasts who still want to relive the excitement of the Great One however, this Judge owned by legendary drag racer Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick is indeed a Judge worthy of rising in respect for. A living Pontiac legend and undisputed fan favorite among four generations of racing enthusiasts, Beswick had been racing Oldsmobiles and Dodges in the mid-1950s when he bought a new Pontiac Chieftain in 1958, kicking off his wildly successful racing career behind the wheels of Pontiac super stocks, funny cars and more.
The recipient of a beautiful refresh throughout, this special street machine retains the look and feel of the OEM release in most ways but has been given a bit of fortification where it matters. That starts with its new 400 CI 4-bolt main V-8 engine with a .25-inch increase in stroke. Using Edelbrock heads and the accompanying intake, there are custom polished valve covers with red-painted “PONTIAC” lettering, MSD ignition wires, a custom-look radiator and that cool factory-standard Ram Air equipment left in place and connected to the hood via the foam lip seal. This is followed up with a 4-speed manual transmission and an upgraded 12-bolt 3.64-geared rear end, and there is power steering and power brakes with front discs on this car as well.
The exterior now wears custom–refinished Candy Red paint gorgeously accented with circa-1970-design GTO Judge-style side striping and custom “The Farmer” decal badging in place of the usual “Judge” badges, of course pointing to its legendary owner. The trademark front and rear spoilers, Endura color-keyed front bumper, lower rocker trim and rear bumper in chrome, and twin-tipped dual exhaust are here as well. Inside one finds a black bucket seat interior complete with a center console, a Hurst T-handle shifter, premium wood-grain-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, the engine-turned dash facing with 140 MPH speedometer and tachometer, an updated pushbutton-style radio and chrome pedal brightwork. The final touch outside is the set of aftermarket 17-inch Series II-style alloy wheels and modern blackwall Goodyear radial tires. The GTO Judge came onto the scene making a unique statement about its era. This Judge, coming from one of the most famous names in Pontiac racing history, now steps up boldly to declare “order in the court” wherever it goes.
