1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Convertible

There are reasons to pay attention to details with any car purchase, and it is in the details one will find this to be a very special Dodge Challenger. Built on August 2, 1969, the very first day of production, this car is one of only a small handful of Dealer Announcement Show Cars. Moreover, it ended up being one of only 61 V-Code Challenger R/T convertibles produced with the 4-speed manual transmission that first and only year; the convertible R/T option was eliminated for 1971. Noted on the copy of the original broadcast sheet as a “special handling car,” it features an older ground-up rotisserie restoration by Jim Spetzman and has been in its current owner’s care since 2001. Beneath its upgraded Shaker hood (a date-correct example with the original hood included), the car sports one of Challenger’s most renowned powerplants: the 440/390 HP Six Pack V–8 engine. This Chrysler RB-series big-block design had been standard in R/T models since 1967, but the trio of Holley 2-barrels gave the 440 even more of a reputation. Dual exhaust and Hemi suspension were standard. This car came optioned with the A34 Super Track Pak, meaning its A833 New Process 4-speed manual transmission is backed by a Dana 60 Sure Grip-equipped rear end with 4.10 gears.
