THE STORY

This 4-speed 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 underwent a no-expense-spared, concours-quality, nut-and-bolt, frame-off rotisserie restoration by marque expert Jim Novelli of Wright City, Missouri, and was unveiled at the MCACN show in 2022. The car was owned by an Oldsmobile Master Judge, who oversaw the detailed restoration process. The exterior is finished in the factory-correct Platinum poly (Code 14), which is complemented well by the black stripes and the updated Legendary Black bucket-seat interior. Powered by a rebuilt 455/370 HP V-8 and a rebuilt M21 close-ratio 4-speed transmission, this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 is in a rare color combination.

Other features include red plastic inner fenders, a heavy-duty Harrison radiator, front and rear sway bars, bucket seats with a center console, a tilt sport steering wheel, Rally Pac gauges and the Tic-Toc-Tach, a pushbutton AM/FM stereo radio, a rear deck spoiler, wood-grain accents and SSI wheels wrapped in a set of new Firestone Wide Oval G70–14 tires. The undercarriage and suspension are new, including the brake lines, fuel lines and the cables and hardware, and the new Gardner exhaust system features chrome trumpets. Plenty of chrome is featured, along with a forced air induction hood and the W-30 package to complete the famous look of this rare Oldsmobile.

The W-30 version of the 455 Oldsmobile Rocket V-8 was the most powerful engine offered for the Oldsmobile, putting out 370 HP at 5,200 RPM with 500 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 RPM. This formidable powerplant featured a 10.5:1 compression ratio, a high-performance hydraulic cam, big-port heads and an aluminum intake manifold mounted on a specially calibrated Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. The W-30 has a well-deserved reputation as a torque monster, and it was one of the greatest street performance engines of the muscle car era. The car is accompanied with the documents and awards from MCACN.
