As the track-focused, ultra-performance version of the Ford’s new-generation Mustang, this 2018 Ford Shelby GT350R marks a quantum leap from its legendary 1960s namesake. Power is delivered by Ford’s renowned 5.2L Voodoo V-8 engine equipped with a flat-plane crank and good for a Ferrari-worthy 8,000 RPM redline. Delivering an awesome, wailing exhaust note to match, this wicked powerplant is factory-rated at 526 HP and stands as the most powerful naturally aspirated production engine available from Ford to date. Delivering that power is a lightweight Tremec 3160 6-speed manual transmission and 3.73:1 Torsen torque-sensing differential.
Other racing wizardry applied to the GT350R includes electric power steering with three driver-selectable modes, composite iron-aluminum brake rotors supplied by Germany’s SHW, and Brembo brake calipers. Formerly optional, the Code 920A Track Pack came standard on the 2018 GT350R, including the Magneride magnetic damping system, front shock-tower brace, higher-rate springs and oil coolers for the engine and transmission, plus a carbon-fiber rear wing and special lightweight carbon-fiber wheels mounting Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ultra-performance tires. Magazine performance tests for the GT350R include a 3.9-second 0–60 MPH time and 175 MPH top speed.
A thrilling find as one of only eight GT350Rs produced with Deep Impact Blue paint and no stripes for 2016, this GT350R is offered with 93 miles on the odometer. The Voodoo 5.2L/526 HP flat-plane crank V-8 engine’s power is sent to the rear axle by a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. In addition to the chin spoiler and carbon fiber rear wing, exterior enhancements include a black-painted roof. The driver-focused interior features the Electronics Package with dual-zone climate control and voice-activated navigation, plus Recaro sport seats, rear seat delete, a tilt and telescopic steering column and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with red hash mark. An aluminum tower-to-tower brace adds chassis rigidity. A set of 19-inch carbon fiber wheels and a great-sounding quad-tip dual exhaust system finish it all off. Virtually as new, the GT350R retains some protective plastic covers that are still intact, and the window sticker is still affixed.
